Interested in fitting this remote but there still seems to be a lack of consensus as to exactly what cable(s) is/are needed. Can anyone enlighten me please? (Bike is non canbus - Transalp)
Thank you.
Handlebar Controller for XT2
Re: Handlebar Controller for XT2
For motorbike and 6" devices (XT2 and Tread 2) you need just the REF: 010-13985-00.

Re: Handlebar Controller for XT2
Not a lack of consensus @Triplog Its a Garminism.
The controller was released and the online manual said that the high current cable was required.
The diagram showed a single cable
The text described two cables. Both were required.
A few of us bought both.
Since then, a new cable has been announced - the 010-13985-00.
This does the same job as the two cables, and has the xt2 cradle built in.
No one at tech support seemed to have any idea
My two cables will be going back.
Go back to post #1 - the confusion will make sense. I edited the first post as soon as I discovered the new cable
Have owned Zumo 550, 660 == Now have Zumo XT2, XT, 595, 590, Headache
Use Basecamp (mainly), MyRouteApp (sometimes), Competent with Tread for XT2, Can use Explore for XT - but it offers nothing that I want !

Re: Handlebar Controller for XT2
Thanks for the clarification @jfheath! Been looking online last night and there does seem to be a waiting time for the cable. It appears to be such a new addition that no-one has them in stock! (that I've come across to date anyhow!)
"Estimated" availability on the Garmin site is now 1-2 weeks.

Re: Handlebar Controller for XT2
Estimate for one of mine was 5-7 weeks, It wouldn't arrive until next week. But it got here well before Christmas. I think that they will quote maximum, so everyone is aware. Still no price listed though.

Re: Handlebar Controller for XT2
Looking at this continuing thread, I'm surprised at the lack of outrage towards Garmin about releasing a Controller with so little clarity about what cables were needed and how to hook them up, and at such a high price.
Have we gotten so inured to Garmin's low level of support for the XT2 and the Tread app that this is now what we accept?

Re: Handlebar Controller for XT2
At last.
My two previous heavy duty cables - ie the power cable and the heavy duty Y adapter - which were joined by a red screw connector, and which were the only possible solution to make the Handlebar controller work with an XT2 - have both been returned to Garmin for a refund. Goodness me - whoever organised the roll out of the controller and the cables needs putting together with whoever designed and tested the XT2 / Tread system. Put them in a brewery and assess their ability to actually organise anything.
(And if non-english members do not understand this reference , got to Google UK and enter 'Organise Brewery' - for a little enlightenment.)
So when the new cable came out, I asked for themt o be replaced. They sent me a return label and in the email which quoted two reference numbers. So I packed them both in the same box with the return label that they sent me, and wrote the two reference numbers in thick felt pen on the outside of the box.
A few days later, I get my refund for one of the cables. Not the other. I checked my order status. One said it had been returned. The other said 'return initiated.
So I contacted them. So you have returned both in one box?
Yes.
But the web page shows that the return has been initiated.
Yes. But I have returned it.
So we need to initiate the return.
Yes - but that will send me a label and I dont have the cable return. You have that already.
Ah.
He goes and checks. Ok. We can see whats happened. Give it a few days, it will be sorted.
A day later.
I have an email saying that you have sent me a return label and I have a return label.
What I don't have is the cable. The reason is that you have got it. I already sent it back to you as you requested.
You gave me one label and asked me to send both cables. You quoted 2 reference numbers in your email I wrote both reference numbers on the outside of the parcel.
Find the person who opened the parcel - it will be recorded somewhere. Ask them what the did with the other cable. If they tell you that there wasn't another cable, they are not being truthful. Go from there.
Ah.
He goes away again.
Ok - we can see what has happened. I have sent the team a request to say that the item has been returned, and it needs to be altered in the database. Give it a few days.
A few days later.
Hi. Nothing has happened. The website still says you are awaiting the return.
You still have the cable.
My money has not been refunded.
Ah.
He goes away.
Yes we can see what has happened. They have not repsonded to my email.
I'll get onto them now. I'll call you back.
He did.
OK that is being sorted today.
Give it a few days and the money will be credited back to your card.
The following day it was all sorted.
--------------------------------------
So - I ordered TWO of the new Y cables. Y-Adapter Kit 010-13985-00 The website now has a price for them and at the time I ordered them, a delivery of about 1 week. THis was better than the previous time of 3-5 weeks. They both arrived today.
I bought two because half of the price was recovered by sending the previous two back. And it will be worth it to have an XT2 cradle on my desk so that I can plug in the handlebar controller to find out how it works without having to brave the freezing cold in the garage. Providing I can wire the controller so that I can take it off fairly easily.
The cable comes with a new XT2 cradle.
The cable length from the cradle to the bare ends is 240cm / 2400mm.
The Y spur of the main cable is 50cm / 500mm from where the cable feeds into the cradle.
The wire joinint the screw in USB C connector to the 'Y' moulding is 6cm / 60mm
The cradle comes ready wired with the RAM ball mount in place.
The harness has 10cm / 100mm of black/red joined wire with bared and tinned ends. No connectors.
----------------------
Incidentally - when you call product support, you are told how long the wait time is. 25 minutes (say).
Or they can call you back. So I selected that.
And they do. In every case my call back came within a few minutes.
