I'm having issues with importing GPX into the Tread app, I've never had this happen before.

I made a route on calimoto's website and I exported it as GPX, transferred that GPX to my iPhone and when I click "Share" the Tread app is not there, I was like okay let me try directly from the Tread app.

Open Tread -> Saved -> Three Dots -> Import Data (GPX) and the GPX file in my File Manager is greyed out.

Anyone dealing with this?

This is my route

Routes that have been created using the Tread App and then exported from tread as as a GPX file - you might think that these would work OK ? Not so. It has issues importing its own GPX files - the import process changes the routes - but at least it reads them.

Using Calimoto, Google and other sources of gpx file - you are working very hard in order to get it to fail. There's no need. It can do that all by itself.

You need a good point of reference. Get rid of the Tread App from your phone. Reset the XT2 to factory conditions. Start again. Don't install Tread on your phone - or if you do, then do not let it save data or synch (you do get that option). Then see how it behaves with your routes.

Calimoto - I don't think I have ever tried that. But Google Map routes often create problems for even the early Zumos.
Have owned Zumo 550, 660 == Now have Zumo XT2, XT, 595, 590, Headache
Use Basecamp (mainly), MyRouteApp (sometimes), Competent with Tread for XT2, Can use Explore for XT - but it offers nothing that I want !

It worked a few months ago, I've imported many GPX files from all sorts of websites. And it also worked for another guy in a thread that I created here.

It's an iPhone bug, I hope it gets sorted out soon.

It's a navigation device, if it doesn't accept GPX files then what's the point of it? Why not fight for more features and updates from Garmin? Should everything stay the same as when released? No, let's get the most of our devices with features being added with updates.
I don't really like the app nor the device itself for creating big routes, it sometimes chooses bad roads, especially in the Balkans since it's not that commonly used. I prefer to create my big routes on calimoto or on Google Maps.

No point in resetting the zumo XT2 since I literally didn't use it here to demonstrate this, it's sitting in my tank bag at home, why would you even suggest that?

Hey - don't shoot the messenger !

I'll explain - in case you are interested.

Gps files from different sources do not always follow the GPX standards precisely. I have had GPX files from other sources that have not worked in my Zumo(s).

This may be due to an error when it was created or a corruption when it was saved or read. Also, Google routes often refer to points that are not located precisely on the Garmin maps, which can cause issues - especially on pre-XT Zumos. Google does not create the shaping points and via points in the same way that Garmin uses them. They seem to work for some people though.

Resetting the XT2. It was a suggestion to address your issue. The XT2 will alter your route if it is imported from a GPX file: Via points will move slightly and are often renamed; Shaping points will often be renamed and moved onto completely different roads.

This problem has been reported by many of us, backed up with convincing evidence and videos.
As an example of this, jfheath wrote:You can see this behaviour in the following link. Section 2 of the video shows a route created externally and saved on the SD card and imported. There is a link in the text that allows you to jump straight to that section. The video shows the XT2 screen loading a gpx file with Tread is disabled (BT is turned off) - and then it shows that the route is altered after BT is turned on and the XT2 is allowed to synchronise with the Explore Database via the Tread App.

viewtopic.php?p=23433&hilit=youtube.com#p23433
This problem seems to be related to the Tread App on the phone. If the Tread app is loaded and running and a GPX file containing a route is imported, then the route will often be significantly altered when it synchs with the Explore database (which is what the Tread App talks to) and/or when it is then synched to the XT2. I have had identical problems with Samsung and my Ipad.

From my numerous tests, this behaviour doesn't happen if :
  • The Tread App is not installed on my phone
  • The Tread App has not been allowed to Synch (or save) your data when it first set up. If you do enable this feature, the only way to get rid of it seems to be to return the XT2 to factory condition..
So that is why I 'would even suggest that'. You mentioned that your routes were being altered when loaded into Tread. What you did not say in your first post is that the XT2 is not involved in this alteration. It matters not. If you put a route into Tread - either by importing it as a gpx file or by allowing the XT2 to synch with the Tread App data. The Tread app seems to change the route - particularly where shaping points are concerned.

It's better, but, I live in Aberdeen and at the 3mi scale it's name tag disappears, but Newmachar, a small village to the north west is still showing it's name.

At 2mi Aberdeen does show so does Newmachar.
At 1.2mi Aberdeen shows, but Newmachar does not, even though much smaller hamlets are named.

So, better, but not fully fixed. Reported using the map error tool.

I update after performing several tests. The bluetooth connectivity when you install the Tread App and connect the phone to the XT2 has gotten worse. Despite performing a master reset on both devices, it is now very difficult to connect both devices correctly. Does this happen to anyone else?

I have had two issues.
1. One with routes that are synch'd with the Tread App. They change after synch.
2. One with Phone calls coming through to the XT2. The XT2 id not release the call.

1. I was solved by any of the following methods:
  • Disabling Bluetooth completely - thus not allowing Tread to Synch.
  • Preventing synch in other ways eg by deleting Tread from my Phone
  • Complete reset of both devices. Delete Tread from Phone. Reinstall Tread, but do not allow it to synch or save data.
2. Was solved in part by any of the following
  • Removing Tread completely from phone and XT2
  • Using a different phone.
  • Partial solution was the last one - partial install of Tread. ie it still had problems, but not as drastic. It would reset after a phone call and reinstate everything as it should be.
My first phone was a 4 year old Android 12 (latest software). Samsung A41. It worked perfectly for years with the XT1, and the XT2 without tread installed. Would not function properly with Tread installed and synching.

My replacement phone is a Samsung A35. Android 14. I couldn't get it to go wrong.

Garmin said - that proves that it is the (old) phone that was the problem
I replied. It proves that the phone is part of the problem. But it only fails when the tread app is involved.
Which they acknowledged.

I also have problem "1", and "2" as you know about interruptions. Just like in your case, when I delete Tread App everything works fine, which shows that Tread App is the cause of the problems. In my case also with the Tread App installed without Explore synchronization, it works quite well. It's a shame to have to use the XT2 with a USB or MicroSD cable like 20 years ago

According to Garmin, the app is still in development and you will have "improvements" . I've been listening to this for 2 years, and it still works poorly.
